Teeth

Here's the story:

Our two horses live out 24/7 and neither of them wood chewing or cribbing problems, in fact, I have never seen either of them try to chew the fence. Sometimes they nibble trees, but not much, especially Amigo, the one of interest. He is 5 yrs this year and has no problem eating. The dentist was out earlier this year and rasped his teeth. There was nothing wrong then. However, when I was just playing around with him and checking out his teeth I noticed that his two front ones looked a little strange. I don't really know how to describe it other than they look worn down on the front. Our other horse who lives in the same conditions and eats the exact same things has normal looking teeth. Here is a picture of what I am talking about.

Is this normal/okay? What is it called and why does my horse have funny looking incisors?

Thanks!
Julie Z

I apologize for it being big (if it is) I will try to fix it when I get back from classes this afternoon.

It looks like they have been that way for a while. Perhaps they are naturally higher. Just like humans and dogs we each have unique and individual teeth patterns. If he is eating well and has been checked by a dentist, I wouldn't worry.

Several of my old horses have had their teeth end up like that. I just think it's part of aging. Also if the pasture has gotten very short they tend to have to nibble much closer to the soil.

It doesn't seem to be top jaw sliding inside the bottom jaw on the bite so I just think it's from grazing very close to the soil.
