The Who is Who thread.I know that so many people on here have very interesting Usernames, and they mean something to you...but don't help people respond to you by name. I thought I'd start a Who is Who thread, so people can give their REAL name, or at least what they want to be called. It would also help to say where you are from, at least country. That might help some language and time barriers we run into occasionally.
Maybe someone with LOTS of time will volunteer to put them all in one post, near the top in alphabetical order.
For now, I'll start.
I'm Carol and live in Utah, United States.

I use my real name, Cynthia Peterson. I did on the SC forum too. I live in Northern Illinois ( boo to Rio, we should have got the Olympics), 45 miles from Iowa and 60 miles from Wisconsin, 120 from downtown Chicago. I am a "carded" Horse Judge, have had Youth Judging Teams that have won National Honors. Of course, showed in everything (never much of a "speed event" talent tho, you are either a speed lover, or not)
We own and farm 500 acres. We have feeder cattle and have bred and shown Champion cattle.
Probably been "into" NH for 20 years, Parelli about 8 years.
Been there/ done that.... and getting smarter too late before I got old...

Nashama
|
I'm Julia, or Jules, and I am from Temora in New South Wales, Australia.
Nashama (nash- am-ah) is our stud prefix and business name, but the name belonged to the bay in my avatar before either existed. We liked the name and meaning so much we registered it as our stud prefix, then our business name for the barefoot trimming and equine body workas it is Shama that is the reason we can now do all of this. Nashama means a human that shows initiative or a horse that responds quickly to the rider's command.

Hey all, sorry for my extended absence!
Name is Suzanne, living in SE Michigan. My partner is Socks.
This has been a crazy year. I quit my job and started a business in July, and have been a busy bee getting it going. I haven't had much time for horsey stuff because of this, which isn't all bad, since Socks' arthritis is getting worse and I don't do much with her other than go for walks, hang out and graze. Just had the vet out for new xrays this week and her hocks barely have any space in the joints now, she practically walks straight-legged. We've gone to steriod injections into the joints to help (in addition to all the supplements and bute), but he gives her about a year before the pain is debilitating
I miss you guys! I'll try to visit more often.

Who's WhoHello All!
I'm new to this forum. My User name, Never-E-Nuff, is a reference to the non-profit horse rescue & sanctuary that I founded back in 2005:
Never-E-Nuff Acres.
Real name: Dawn Walsh. I live in Waxahachie, Texas, just south of Dallas.
My personal horse is Rohan, a former PMU foal who is now 7 yrs old and HUGE!
He's a Percheron/Leopard Appaloosa/Belgian/Paint. In other words, a mutt!!!
But he's the love of my life.
At the Rescue, I've cared for as many as 50 head at one time; now that number is closer to 40. That's about 30 too many!
Visitors are always welcome!

Yes, I am still a Parelli student. But love to learn from all kinds of places.

Thanks. She is a Connemara Pony. The photos were taken at a stable I used to board at. They had a whole 10 acre Parelli Playland. It was awesome. Now she is at home. I just filmed our Liberty audition and am going to send it in tomorrow. Crossing my fingers that we pass.

Hey ya'll! My name is Rebecca (Becca for short). I live in Missouri , with my Appaloosa/Quarter horse mare, Cookie.
This is a great forum! I'm glad I found my way here. I've been looking for a forum like this for awhile. Thanks Carol, for starting this!
I haven't been in Parelli very long (less than 6 months). I'd always heard that Parelli wasn't a very good way to train your horse, but than I got a dvd from the library (Seven Games), I was hooked, it was just what I'd been looking for! I haven't been able to do the levels of Parelli but I try to learn all I can from the books, dvd's, websites and blogs.
Cookie is an extreme LBI and I have had a hard time trying to figure out how exactly I should work with her. She is part of the reason I got into parelli. Becca

Becca, you came to the right place. As a new owner, perhaps you'd be interested in Hertha's Natural Horsemanship Manual and Workbook. It kind of takes you through, step by step, how to understand and train a horse naturally. If you PM her (just search "Hertha") she'll tell you how to get a copy.
She's done a great job of distilling many different methods into an easy to understand education 'program.'
And I'm sure she'd be interested in a 'beta student' to follow it and see if she missed anything.
OH..........and WELCOME TO IATH! Thank you for your complement, I think we have the BEST group on the Internet here.

Becca, glad to have more Missourians here! Welcome to the most wonderful forum on the internet; I'm certain you'll be happy here I'm just outside of Clinton, for reference......

Thanks for the welcome!Hey, thanks for the welcome!
Thanks for the reference Carol. I'll look into that...
I have never been on a forum before so please forgive my mistakes:( How do I PM "Hertha"? I wanted to post something asking people if they could share their success stories with LBI horses....how and where would I do that? Any tips on how to use the forum, post, etc. would be helpful.
I was wondering if somebody could give me some advice on my situation with my horse.... (I'll tell you in my next post... I don't want to ramble on too much in this one:)
One more question.....If a horse is 18 years old, do you think it is too late to try to do better with her?
Horses4ever,
Becca

Becca,
The easiest thing to do is to go to Horse General Chat and see a thread there called "Hertha's Meanderings". You'll see her name in the closer right volume as the originator of the thread. Just click on her name and it will bring up her profile. At the bottom of the profile (and all of her posts) you'll see a button that says "PM" Click on that button and it will take you to a window to send her a Private Message.
When you come back to the forum later on, look up that the top where the links are to join or log in. You'll see one there that will either say "You have no private messages" or it will say "You have 1 private message"...click on it and it will take you to your inbox.
As for your questions about your LBI horse, when you are in the Horse General Chat, just start a thread asking for help. There will be a button on the upper left that says "New Topic" just click on it, write a short question in the Subject box, and then details in the text window.
Good luck...you'll become good at it quickly.

|
Becca, it's not too late for her. I have two MFT from Springfield
one is 20 and the other is 25. I don't ride my old man (25) anymore but I took territory from him just this morning! I do ride my 20 yr old mare and work with her some. I do a lot of liberty work and these two old folks are just perfect for me to practice on. Great to work it out on an older horse before giving it a try on my younger pair
Do you make it to the Equifest at the fairgrounds, in March? Maybe I'll see ya there this spring! Saw Stacy Westfall last year.......
|
HorseLoverAtHart
|
I've been wondering if Cookie is just to old, and lazy....(LBI decieving me:) Thank you so much, that was really encouraging! I was starting to think I was really weird for trying to work with a "old" horse!
How many horses do you have?
Hey! I went to EquiFest this year and saw Stacy Westfall too!! It was my first time there....I came mostly cause I heard she was there:) I'm a fan of her..
I will probably come again this next march. Maybe we'll see each other!
Do you know where i can get info on Equifest?

I think 18 years is just prime age. Considering how long horses live and how healthy they are these days. My 15 year old LBI acts old but just because she drags her hooves and walks like she has no zip doesn't mean she is slow or old. If something motivates her...FOOD...she really moves fast!!!LOL

haha, thank you, that picture was taken last summer you may not like him so much in the winter, As you can see he is kept as god made him with full mane tail and feathers, i go throught gallons of pig oil in the winter to keep the mud at bay. he can be scruffy in the winter months, He has two blue eyes and is 15hh but built like the draught horse that he is, He was bred by thr gypsies to pull their bow top caravans and he is an extreem LBI, we have scared each other in the past but now we have a good relationship and trust each other.

I LOVE HIM!
He is even cuter with all of the hair!!!!
What kind of saddle are you riding in? It looks super comfortable. What kind of bridle is that? I really like the looks of it! (Can you tell I'm on the look-out for more tack? hehe)
My gosh, you must be super flexible- I don't know that I could stretch that much to fit on such a wide barreled horse. He must be a total DREAM to ride bareback.
PS: What is pig oil?

the saddle is a torsion, it is treeless i also use a copper beech treeless saddle , the bridle is a dr cooks, it is bitless, the natural hackamore is seen as a halter here and my insurance will not cover us for riding on the roads with a halter but we are covered with a bridle, so if we are on the road i use a dr cooks and if i am on the trails and bridleways we use the rope hackamore.I am not anti bit, but my boy was only a baby when i got him and had only just been under saddle for 3 weeks, i couldnt find a bit that he likes, i didnt listen to him until my heavy hands caused him to rear up and i fell off into the road, i almost got hit by a car . We were being looked after that day, My crash hat cracked all down the back and i offered a silent prayer that i wasnt brain damaged.I will never ride without one, it saved my life. So i took the bit away and began with the hackamore. now i was listening to my horses opinion of me and it was getting better. I have recently purchased a cradle bridle and covered the bit with honey and just started to rebit Bo in readyness for our finess stage of the programme, he is accepting of the myler low port c3 bit, it gives him lots of tongue relief. we have used the bridle in the school but on the big rings which means that at present the noseband is used (just like the hackamore) and the bit is carried. when i feel he is ready we will try a slight contact and see where we go from there, the bridle is very resellable if he hates it and then we will simply go back to the dr cooks and the hackamore. Bo doesnt need a bit but i would like to learn to ride with contact, we will go slowly and at our own pace.Pig oil, is a mineral oil (same as baby oil but without the perfume) it is used by farmers for their pigs to prevent mud rash. I apply ti to mane tail and feathers twice a month, this keeps the hair from getting discoloured and the mud simply slides off leaving the legs dry and clean under the feathering, i also add sulpher flour this smells like matches but helps prevent those pesky feather mites which can cause a lot of itching and unpleasentness for feathered horses.Just telling you all this is showing me how much i have learned in the past 4 years, i am 60 yrs old this year and feel that i have missed so much in my life by never having a horse around, My first horse was rescued from slaughter but sadly needed to be put to sleep just a short time after i got her, i had never even met a horse before then.after she was gone i missed her so much that i looked for another, I went to look at a similar horse who was for sale with the gypsies ,there stood in the samr field was Bo jangles, i thought he was the ugliest horse i had ever seen , white, dirty, round, and very cheeky i still say that he chose me that day.He was determined to get my attention .
