Tim Ware video, thumbs up

I just got done watching Tim Ware's video Understanding the Hoof from the Horse's Perspective.

I really enjoyed it. A lot of good points were made, and about an hour in, he starts talking about how he wears his boots (wear patterns) and OH MY GOD, I DONT KNOW HOW I GOT ALONG ALL THESE YEARS without wearing orthotics and having my feet 'balanced'!! It's a wonder I am even walking at all (sarcasm)! I laughed out loud and thought of how people try to shim and pad and worry about 'uneven/unbalanced wear' ......

anyways I just thought I'd share, and I'd recommend this video for just about every horse owner...except one who is closed minded.

Thanks for the recommendation - I'll look into it.

OT  Does anyone use Earth shoes?  with the negative heel?  I tried a pair about 1 year ago and now that is all I wear.  It has helped my posture and eliminated lots of back strain for us.  Not sure what all the implications are for horses, but I won't wear any other shoe now.  BTW, the best place to buy them is SierraTradingPost dot com.  And I buy lots of the men's styles since they fit my large feet, too!  (Not meaning to high jack this thread - just occurred to me what a difference this has made to me and how hoof trimming probably makes that much difference to the horse, too.)

it took me a minute to figure out you were talking about people shoes. lol

No i havent used them, I take it they allow your calf and tendons to sink down enabling a more heel first (and non-propped-up) landing. That's an interesting thought. In the video he definitely shed some light for people why the landing with the frogs on the ground and a low heel is so important.

I was on a trail ride with a lady who shod her horses and was talking about how her farrier left the heels nice and high and how she hated when farriers 'whacked the heels off of horses.' I didn't say a word!
