TuckerTucker's First trim with a new trimmer... we have had a terrible time finding a trimmer I like out here in the middle of nowhere. We have owned him since Oct of 2010 and first trimmer came out, but didn't want to come again since we were so far away.
This new second trimmer I like, she isn't far away either. She does a natural balance type trim. The filings on his hoof are from the first trimmer. This second trimmer didn't roll off the outside this time. She is a graduate of Oklahoma State Horseshoeing School and trimming/shoeing since 2005.
I also measured him for barefoot boots yesterday after his trim. I am thinking about the Renegades. He measured about 5 3/8" Wide and 5 1/8" Long. Any suggestions?

Ok, I want to see the REST of the horse. Nothing to do with feet here, just want to see how far up those curls go! Wow! Very unicorny! Can you post a picture, pleeeeeeease?
Regarding boots, I guess I have three sizes now. The feet seem to change size, with every trim. From small to big and every thing inbetween. I have gloves, and they are pretty speciific to size. I had someone try to fit renegades to Eclipse and didn't work. Do you have a boot rep that can try a few different kinds? I know what you mean about being out in the middle of no where. I'm lucky my trimmer only lives about 1/2 hour away, and he's really good.

I knew those were curly feet....
I feel your pain about trimmers....my husband attended a pete ramey clinic and we have just studied up and are doing it ourselves. So far so good. Typically curlies do have great feet for barefoot.
I'm sorry I don't have anything to share about hoof boots, but looking forward to reading what others might know.
I'm so excited someone else with a curly is on here...we love our ollie, Thanks for sharing your blog....I'll check it out.
Here is a picc of Ollie in all his curly splendor today!
ok so I back boot fitting now.... now.

I think you will find that his hoof measurments, especially length, will be different once you get him trimmed properly.

I didn't understand the RickB. post???
Anyways, I talked to Renegade owner and said size 2WW should work. They are 5 1/2 Wide and 5 1/4 Long with the cutback option. Which leaves about 1/8" width in between trims. Is this going to be enough?

He is SOOO CUTE! Is he a curly/halflinger cross? The reason I ask is there has been a few surface lately. A few breeders have started breeding this cross for quiet family type horses.

Some posts need moderator approval before being posted. THat's what rick's post is saying. Nothing to do with the pictures of your beautiful horses, which we LOVE pictures...share share share...... anywhere!!!!
I've been looking at the renegade web site...they have a really good explaination of how to measure for the right size boots. I'll be interested to know how you like them. I need to get a pair of boots for Bubba, but haven'' decided which ones. We have a pair of easy boots for my daughters...and they are very difficult to get on.

I'm betting you can email your pic's to the different boot companies and they will tell give you some good input. You can also trace your horses foot and fax it to them.
Ya'll can also start a thread on gen chat. Pictures of really cool horses!

Drools over grey horse and thinks they deserve a thread to be drooled over...
Then, you can keep your hoof focus here, but we did need to see the entire conformation of the horses!

I love my Renegades. They are quick & easy for my old body to put on my horse. They don't fit every horse. The maker does a specific kind of barefoot trim and the Renegades are made to fit it. The Renegades are snug once on.
I did learn to trim my own horses due to lack of trimmers in our area. I finally found a good one that does Rio every 8 weeks due to problems & we do him every couple of weeks in between. This way I know he is balanced correctly by the trimmer and we can keep the flares under control before getting too bad.

HALLELUJAH!!! After much research for a barefoot trimmer I think my prayers have been answered! He is an hour and half away and is willing to come out in a couple weeks. Said he does a Pete Ramey style trim.
