Vintage Saddle PHOTO'S ADDED

Hey everyone!
I found the NEASTEST old saddle!!!
I am hoping to get some photo's of it tomorrow, but until them I was wondering if any of you know of a site I could go to  to see if I could find any information on it.
The saddle is from the 1950's and it's in surprisingly good shape! I mean the Leather looks awesome for a saddle this old. The tooling is beautiful complete with little flowers that look like daisys!
On the fenders there's a circle of rope stamped in the leather with a large pretty elk. as I was cleaning it down there I noticed very faintly it had "elk Brand" there.. I think it says 'brand'. but I know it says Elk.
And the numbers 1585.

After a very good cleaning and oiling I revealed a VERY beautiful well kept old saddle!

*edited to add photo's*

I know this post is probably useless with out photo's, but I am excited!

This won't help get your information but, on the other hand it might.  Your saddle might be older than the 1950's.

Found this on Ebay:

Interesting tidbits that seem to deepen the mystery

The saddle we have is like the one in the middle.. I was hoping to see the 1585 saddle listed but I didn't.
so if this is the case this saddle is from the 1930;s!
That's simply amazing.
and for it to be in this good of shape..
well I think it's in good shape! LOL can't wait to share photo's of it

Pretty saddle!  I can't wait to see pics of it.  I used to have an old DE Walker Visalia that I used on my Thoroughbred until it got stolen.
Copious_Amour

I hope you plan on keeping it Elaine, how exciting!
ElaineW

Yeah I am planning onkeeping it for sure.

I don't want to mess it up by fixing it though. I would love for Julie to be able to use it with Shadow.
The saddle she has now is NOT a good saddle. But if it does not work i would love to have it just because!

Talked to the saddle guy today..
He was VERY impressed with this saddle!
It is a Elk Brand saddle from the 1930's..
Everything on this saddle is solid. The tree is solid. All the leather
is in fantastic shape.
He told me He would not change anything about it. and it was in good enough shape to ride !
but we are not going to.. it's gonna be in the house here on display.
I love this old saddle! Well I am pretty sure it's gonna hang out here LOL
Iput the photo's up there on my first post..

here's the elk stamp

That is very beautiful saddle!

I am so glad you're not going to use it and it's going to be on display.  It might be worth a good bit of money to a collector.

I still have the Sears-Roebuck saddle, bridle & martengale mom bought me new in 1959 when I got my first horse.  It's in excellent condition but your Elk Brand might pass it up and the Elk Brand is 15 - 20 years older.

What a treasure you have

The gentleman that looked at the saddle was very excited to see it as well! Look again and see the brand photo..
The detailed leather work on this is so beautiful.. I like it alot!
And the wool on the inside is REAL! hahaha  it's falling off in some parts, but most of it's there...

Hey Lea!
Well I am not sure what year it was made. BUT I do know that in the early 50's my friend's husband bought it used and has owned it every since. so it's possible that it's a 2 owner saddle! but I can't be 100% sure..
Leon is in his late 70's or early 80's...

a couple saturdays ago we went to a benefit for my brother,, we seen Leon there, got to talking about saddles and horses etc. He said he had a saddle he would sell us..
He told me he wanted 150.00 for it. I said i would have to see what the saddle dude said. honestly i didn't know what i was looking at. I thought it was a saddle from the 60's.. I was prepared to refleece it etc for Julie to ride..
But Now we are going to leave it be...
TakinabreakFromtheVirtual

That's a beauty.
