West Point has passed away

Just posted on facebook:

"We have some sad news to share with the Parelli community this morning, and a reminder that in the horse world, and in life, nothing is certain. This morning, Linda's wonderful horse West Point got in a bad accident and unfortunately passed away. Let's all send positive energy Linda's way and support her through this difficult time."

I guess details will be forthcoming. What a tragedy...

OMG, how heartbreaking.   I feel so bad for her, for Lauren, for West Point.  These big, incredible animals are so fragile!

I'm so sorry to hear this.  My heart goes out to all of them.

Apparently:

"He freaked out and ran through a gate, taking the
gate with him and slipped on the asphalt and hit his head and died almost
immediatly. One of those freak accidents. A reminder of how precious our
lives are. "

Sad news indeed.

Absolutely devestating

I think MANY - if not most horses will freak out.  Some have little concern for their own safety when this happens....I've had Buddy stitched up 3 times from this crap.  He's actually a very dangerous horse to be around, when he's afraid, he has no concern for his own safety and has run through fence panels, fencing and two gates.

I can imagine their helplessness watching this happen.

Was anyone riding him?

Her heart must be broken to pieces.  Yeah, Shaun was out this morning pitching a fit because I had them penned in so they ONLY had 10 acres to play on.  He was thundering about like a wild pony.  Not freaking, but he was bucking, running, crow hopping and basically throwing a tantrum.  Even the calmest of horses can "go there".  Horsetalk just did a write up about a large percentage of horse injuries occur in turnout or in pastures.  I'm so sad for her.  Gonna go hug my ponies till they roll their eyes and beg me to stop.
Chablis

Very sorry for her loss.    He was a beautiful boy and she clearly loved him.

RIP Westy.

Very sad news indeed.
Let's keep assumptions of what MIGHT have happened in check and let the facts be told by those that were there. Hearsay is a great rumour starter, I am sure Linda will tell the story in due time.

That was apparently an eye witness account
jackspark

Only an eye witness account if it was your own eyes;  I'll wait for the details to come out.  We have all seen this kind of thing and it's terrifying to watch. I feel so badly for her

So sad.  My heart goes out to both ladies who had this horse in their lives.
