Am wondering if anyone can reveal some clues as to how to establish the difference between a horse stiff or reluctant due to pain or due to one-sidedness.
I'm imagining that asking a horse to do something with his less dominant side is much like me trying to do something with my left hand that I neve do with my left hand.
As with most horses, trotting on one diagonal feels much smoother than trotting on the other.
Cantering on the circle is easier one direction - pushing off with the left hind (ie. moving to the right) seems easier than pushing off with the right hind (ie. moving to the left).
Consistent work with the less favoured diagonal at the rising trot seems to make it better. |
