Stolen Horse International, aka NetPosse.com, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Shelby, NC, may be small but the need for our services grows more and more each year, which keeps me busier than I've ever been. Because I have been so busy I am way short of items for this year's auction.

Man charged with stealing $28,000 horse from Wellington owner; horse still missing

An 8-year-old horse valued at $28,000 has gone missing from its Wellington stable and authorities have charged the owner's former employee with stealing it.

Thirty-two-year-old Mark Reid is in jail and faces charges of grand theft of the Bay Selle Francais horse named "Narqois de B'Neville," according to his arrest report from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

The horse's Wellington owner, Randall Jonson, reported the horse stolen Tuesday and told sheriff's investigators he suspected Reid, a former employee and rider.

At the time of the report Reid was in his homeland of Ireland. But investigators caught up with him when he returned Thursday. Reid at first told authorities he owned the horse and then later amended that to say he was "an agent for the owner," the arrest report said.

"He could not name the owner. He told me that Johnson 'owed me money and was a drunk' He admitted that he did take a horse, but not one belonging to Johnson," the investigator reported.

Reid is in the Palm Beach County Jail pending a $10,000 bond. Neither he nor Johnson could be reached for comment.

The arrest report notes: "To date the location of the animal is unknown."

A California woman who pleaded guilty to misrepresenting horses she offered for sale on equine-related websites will serve 41 months in prison and pay $273,000 in restitution to 88 people who responded to her horse sales advertisements.

Last year federal authorities accused Trina Lee Kenney of Wrightwood, Calif., of making false claims about the breed, registration status, health, abilities, and temperaments of horses she offered for sale on equine-focused websites including horsetopia.com, equine.com, agdirect.com, equinenow.com, and dreamhorse.com between November 2004 and June 2008.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph N. Akrotirianakis said that in one case Kenney allegedly claimed a horse was safe for a child or a timid rider. In another she had painted other horses to the color of horse she advertised. In some cases buyers never received the horses they purchased.

Kenney's activities came to light after some dissatisfied customers filed complaints with the FBI's Internet crimes division. During an investigation Kenney attempted to sell a nonresistant Friesian mare to an undercover FBI agent and a U.S. Postal Inspector. After receiving $5,000 in payments for the mare, she did not respond to their email and other inquiries about the transaction.

Kenney later pleaded guilty to mail fraud, specifically admitting that she defrauded prospective horse purchasers in 23 states and Canada.

According to a written statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office of Central California, when she pleaded guilty Kenney admitted she had drugged horses to make them appear docile and that she had painted at least two horses to make them appear black, rather than their natural brown color. Kenney further acknowledged that various horses she had delivered were starved, covered in sores and cuts, had hooves that had been untrimmed so the horses were unable to walk, or were suffering from strangles, a severely contagious equine respiratory disease, the statement said.

United States District Judge A. Howard Matz handed down Kenney's sentence on April 14. Kenney's attorney, Joseph Shemaria, was unavailable for comment.

U.S. District Court Spokesman Thom Mrozek said where Kenney will serve her sentence will be determined later.

Owner reunited with horse after severe storms in North Carolina.

Willow Spring, N.C. — WRAL viewers helped reunite a 5-year-old Willow Spring girl and her horse which had been missing since storms rampaged across North Carolina a week ago.

John Singleterry said Friday that his niece's horse named Buddy was pastured near 2 Claude and Honeycutt roads. Last Saturday's storms blew down the pasture's fences, letting Buddy escape.

The family contacted WRAL News after unsuccessfully searching for the horse for six days.

Within hours of a brief story and photos being posted online, two tipsters said there was a similar-looking horse in an abandoned pasture about a mile from Buddy's.

Jeff Gossett said his daughter Gracie, 11, found the horse on Thursday night and fed it apples and carrots. The horse then stuck around their subdivision, which is several farms down from where Buddy was pastured.

The Singleterry family recognized the horse as Buddy and took him home safely late Friday.

April 25, 2011 (GARY, Ind.) (WLS) -- The bodies of two men were found Sunday morning on a horse farm in northwest Indiana wrapped in plastic and buried in a manure pile.

It is not known how long the bodies were there. The bodies were discovered by a man who was boarding his horse. The farm is located in a remote, wooded area on the southeast side of Gary.

Gary police had to use a backhoe to sift through the giant pile of manure to uncover the bodies. Now they're trying to find out who the victims are and why they were murdered.

The horse farm is at the end of Mississippi Street on the southeast side of Gary, a quiet neighborhood tucked away from the rest of the city.

"It is a different feel than the rest of the city. It is more rural than what we're used to with our urban areas," said Gary Police Col. Mike Barnes.

Part of the land is being used as a farm. Nearly 20 horses are boarded there. They have roosters and goats that roam freely.

Gary police are investigating how two bodies ended up buried in a pile of manure.

"I think that whoever put them there did not want them to be found," said Barnes.

Barnes was called to the scene Sunday morning. He said it was about 10:30 when a man searching the property for chicken eggs spotted an arm sticking out of the manure pile.

It turns out there were two bodies, both males, wrapped in plastic.

Calvin Kimbrough goes to the stables every morning to take care of some of the horses. He was there Sunday before the bodies were discovered and says he has never known criminal activity to take place there.

"We never had no problem like this, you know, what's going on. Like I say, it is quiet down here," Kimbrough said.

Police say it's hard to tell how long the bodies have been in the pile since the manure could have sped up decomposition. They haven't identified the victims and are investigating missing persons cases in the area.

Meanwhile, Kimbrough's peace and quiet has been shattered.

"It is dangerous to me. Now I'll look at everything before I come down here," Kimbrough said.

Both victims appear to be either white or Hispanic. One is about 5'7" and the other is 6'0". If you have any information, you're asked to call Gary police.

I do not see that this miniature is emaciated or abused. They claim he is a friendly stallion. He belongs to an Amish child and therefore, he is probably a cart horse in training the child how to be around horses and mules. They train their children young.

I have seen worse cases at rescues, etc. where animals got not water or food and died. Seems this guy just got out.

Now the SPCA is involved? They chase this kind of thing and yet, I see the video and i see a stallion in mating season that is probably well exercised and breeds for the farm.
