I really really liked Pk's book "Twisted Truths of Modern Dressage". Just thought I'd through that in their in response on what to start with with PK, I also really liked the book "Tug of War Classical versus 'Modern' Dressage" by Gerd Heuschmann both go into a lot of anatomical and bio-mechanics detail. And since this thread is about centered riding, I have enjoyed both of Sally Swifts books, and taking or at least auditing a centered riding lesson someday is on my list of things to do.

How long does it take?  Forever, I think.  Every time I ride with Carol, the progress is huge.  I don't think Tom Dorrance ever felt like he really got it like he wanted to, if only he had more time.  Skiing was like that.  You learn some pretty big stuff in the beginning, which changes a lot.  Then you learn little things, a tweak here, and tweak there, which changes a lot.  Soon, you don't look like you are doing anything, and all kinds of things are happening.  It's just so subtle, only the horse knows.
Carol's theme for last clinic seemed to be, less is more.  Beautiful softness when I do what I've learned, confusion and it all falls apart when I go back to old habits.  It's like unwrapping the best present you can imagine, a little at a time.  Always more wrapping, more ribbon, more tape...so fun!  Arg, kool aid sounding?  Maybe.
lol, saw a Parelli pro at america's greatest trail horse audition.  He had a bunch of dvd's he was giving away, selling his brand of kool aid.  He asked if I wanted to take some lessons.  "Nope.  Eclipse is an assessed l 3 horse, and she hated it.  We do centered riding and she is doing so well."
"Dave Ellis is giving a clinic up this way."
"Yeah, but I'm not in savvy club anymore.  My horse really likes centered riding and it's about the horse, right?"
Crickets and silence.

You can mix and match, but when you learn a basic method that a lot of people use then you can dip into different ideas and they are the same track with d.ifferent methods.
