Marty that link doesn't work, could you re-post?   I'm looking for all the information I can find.

Fibrinigin is something in the blood that shows an infection might be brewing.   The vet always mentions it as an indicator of if he is doing better or not...when he was really sick it was way up....then started to drop, whenit was finally w/in range of normal is when she said I could take him home.

Like I said it could be nothing....but we're not going to take any chances.

Alright, so Fibrin...fibrinogens.... are what can indicate inflammation somewhere. Inflammation normally means infection.
Normal is around 250.   Bubba is at 300 now, but 300 is still in range of normal and the fibrin counts can fluxuate from day to day.   When I first brought him into the clinic on Memorial day weekend, his count was in the 700's.

Becky thinking about this Fibrinogen thingy being an indicator of infection, do you feed any sort of complementary & preventative herbs or similar to your horses to help bolster their immune systems?

I’ve heard about garlic being good, plus various herbal combinations & perhaps certain minerals may help too. Perhaps he has a depressed immune system & you could replace some veterinary expenses with herbals & which might help him more than just taking blood every month.

Thanks Clarissa...yep he is getting minerals and Safe Choice...a feed with a bunch of vitamines.   Just ran out of the dried Echinacea I have been giving him...will get some more.

Isn't he beautiful-I know I'm biased(click for larger images).
This
compared to this
I really don't think he is sick anymore.....no temp.   I've been checking regularly and last night he and Babe were running around playing like wild horses kicking and carrying on like a couple two year olds.  They were giving us a spectacular show.

Hi Clarissa...I was worried about you.....

Since mid June when he came home.   I've been researching and I'm not sure I can give him enough to make a difference (it's spendy), discussed it with the VET, she said he should have everything he needs with the good quality hay, safe choice feed and free choice minerals.
He looks great, is at a perfect weight now, very active...I'm riding him a bit but trying not to stress him.   Luckily Bub doesn't stress easily.

cheers
We're in the clear!!!!    Bubba had a blood work check up Friday.  Dr called this morning.   Fibrin's are not continuing to go up...in fact they are DOWN again...all normal...everything looks great.   She said let's just check him in about 6 months unless he shows signs of getting sick again..    I should continue to ck his temp especially if he is acting down....

I hope to never post on this tread again....
....THE END.
