I believe beet pulp from organically grown sugar beets would be an excellent feed for Mandy.

Good luck with that. Finding organic non GMO sugar beets would be next to impossible. |
That was my point.

My old guy is 31 years old. I didn't think he'd make it through another winter. He colicked 3x, choked twice last winter. Even with feeding him 10-12 cups of Purina Senior Feed 2x/day, I struggled to keep weight on him through the summer. I was seriously within a few days of having him put down at the beginning of winter. He looked so thin and miserable.
Then, I read about adding soaked beat pulp to add fiber and weight. I purchased a bag of shredded beat pulp with molasses, thinking the molasses might make it more palitable. He's looking and acting so much better!
We're feeding 4 household measuring cups of shredded beat pulp, soaked in just enough water to let it expand. Added to 8 cups of Purina Senior Feed topped with 4oz of vegetable oil. Initially he turned his nose up, but now he's eating this mixture without complaint. I do add water to make it slushy since his teeth are worn. If it gets really cold, I'll feed him an extra helping of SOAKED chopped hay. I cannot let him in with the others while they're eating hay, as I believe the hay is what caused him to colic and choke last year since he cannot properly chew.
This mixture has saved his life. _________________
